The Ugly Duckling Brand is about a woman finding her identity. Although that seems simple, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In her own right, her own genetic make up and her own personality design, a woman finding her identity means finding her true self through the eyes of Jesus. Further, it means adjusting her lens to match that of her Creator. It means freedom. It means life. It means courage. It means bravery. It means understanding. And it means grace given and grace received.
The Ugly Duckling Brand is RAW.
The Ugly Duckling Brand is AUTHENTIC.
The Ugly Duckling Brand is UNAPOLOGETIC.
WE the Change
We The Change event and walk is a family-friendly BLM event empowering the children in our community, along with their families, to come together to learn how to use their voices to be the change in their community now, and for the future. We will hear from dynamic speakers from our community, story time with the book “Skin Again” by Bell Hooks, lots of fun giveaways. We will meet on the Devon Lawn and end with a power march around the Myriad Botanical Gardens.
Hosted by: OKC Community members
This event will be to promote Black artists and businesses from our community and to bring OKC together as one. There will be a suggested donation of $5 and all proceeds will go to local organizations that promote racial unity and social justice.
This is a come and go event (similar to a gallery or vendor event) with dancers, spoken word, and live music that will be center stage!
If you are the type of person who just wants to love their community well and help create unity in OKC, then this event is for you!
Saturday, June 20th 5:00PM-10:00PM *Krista will go on at 6:30PM
As you all know, CMOKC decided to pause our digital events back in May. While we still remain paused, we will be holding our June event due to the magnitude of importance storytelling holds in this moment. We realize we have a platform for storytelling in our community and we understand that the power of storytelling gives us an opportunity to learn from one another - it can help shape or even challenge our opinions.
We recognize the ongoing history of oppression that has systemically been inflicted upon the Black community for generations. We also recognize that to be an ally we need to listen to the experiences of POC - just as Black Lives Matter, Black storytelling matters.
CreativeMornings was founded on the belief that “We bring together people who are driven by passion and purpose, confident that they will inspire one another, and inspire change in neighborhoods and cities around the world” - this month we lean into that mission by amplifying the voice of speaker, emcee, writer, and spoken-word artist, Krista Rice.
Our own CMOKC volunteer, Krista, will be speaking with us Friday (June 26th) morning on this month’s topic of Insecure.
Friday, June 26th at 8:30AM
Algorithms may cause us to live in a social media echo chamber. But it doesn’t have to be that way! We are answering @sharethemicnow’s call to #keepsharingthemic by listening to these incredible local voices. Wednesday we have an opportunity to learn new perspectives as these women hand over their platforms and #sharethemicnow with local Black women. Join us! Go ahead and follow all the women tagged here and prepare to learn something new Wednesday!
On July 1, 2020, Krista will be taking over the Instagram account for Stacey Johnson (@staceyjlife)! Stacey is a a counselor, entrepreneur, business woman and most importantly, like Krista, she's an Enneagram 7! One of Krista's favorite quotes of hers is,
"What she does flows out of who she believes she is."
